Communication with Signs and Symbols Through Maps

As we continue to study how symbols are used in communication, we took a day to look at maps.  We brainstormed words that we often hear in relation to maps using our cooperative learning strategy: Give One, Get One.

Students mingled and determined a variety of words that we may hear when discussing maps.

Once our brains were officially warmed-up and ready for maps, we studied some maps and worked on challenges with our partners.

It was confusing at times, but using the key and the grid coordinates, we kept at it.

It was truly engaging and awesome to see so many third graders working together!
