Day four was another lively day in room 2022. We started our day with some sharing and games during circle time. Today we played "A Cold Wind Blows" and it was a lot of fun - (many groans were heard when I announced the end of the game).
For this game, the middle person had to announce the category: "A cold wind blows for all who...___________" Students filled in the blank with categories such as: wearing socks, wearing glasses, all the boys/girls...etc. I think everyone's favorite part was racing around the room for a new chair because if you couldn't find a new chair, you were now it! We also completed a difficult task today in which teams of four had to use duct tape and a marker to draw a smiley face on a piece of paper within a circle that they could not enter. They couldn't stick any limbs over the tape and into the circle! This was very challenging for many students and the power of collaboration was needed.
Many groups argued, got frustrated, and even wanted to give up. But, our third graders continued onward and encouraged teammates who were frustrated. We had some successful groups, some groups that ran out of duct tape, and some that couldn't get their design to work correctly. In the end, we reflected on the skills that were needed to complete this task successfully and ways we would tackle problems like this in the future. Check out some photos from this team building task:
